Central Florida doesn’t get a traditional spring thaw, but the season change from cooler winter months to the heat of summer is the perfect time to tackle a whole-house declutter. Before temperatures make attic and garage work unbearable, knock out your spring cleaning while conditions are still comfortable.

Kitchen

Go through cabinets and pull anything expired, chipped, or unused. Small appliances you never touch, plastic containers without lids, and that bread machine from 2014 can all go. Clean out the pantry completely and reorganize what stays.

Bedrooms and Closets

Pull everything out of each closet and sort into keep, donate, and discard piles. If you haven’t worn it in a year, donate it. Check under beds and on top of closets for forgotten items. Rotate seasonal items and assess whether you really need to keep everything.

Bathrooms

Expired medications, old products, and worn towels take up space. Check expiration dates on everything. Dispose of medications properly through local take-back programs rather than flushing them.

Living Areas

Look at every piece of furniture critically. Is the room crowded? Is that side table actually useful, or just holding clutter? Old magazines, DVDs, books you won’t reread, and decorative items that have lost their appeal can all go to donation or the junk pile.

Garage

This is usually the biggest project. Old tools, broken equipment, holiday decorations you no longer use, and boxes of miscellaneous items should all be sorted. A full garage cleanout can reclaim an entire room’s worth of usable space.

Attic

Get to this early in the spring before temperatures climb. Sort everything and bring down anything that doesn’t need to be stored. An attic cleanout service can handle this if you’d rather not deal with the heat and the ladder trips.

Clear out dead plants, old planters, broken lawn equipment, and any junk that accumulated over the winter. Trim back overgrowth and clear any storm debris that’s still lingering.
